There is a much simpler solution to this. The ratio is exactly 50%, because the probability of each baby being a boy is 50%, regardless of who has it.
(As an aside the slight apparrent variation because couples don't really go on for ever having children is cancelled because the boy they might not have had is exactly cancelled by the number of girls they might not have had)

Funny thing : the ratio between boys and girls born is not 50:50!
Actually it is 51:49 (boys: girls), apparently due to the slightly lower survival rate of new born males nature has corrected for this by increasing the number of males born.
