Critical Mass

I just got back from a Critical Mass ride... a lot of fun

Imagine a thousand people on bicycles riding through the streets of manhattan - "we're not blocking traffic, we are traffic" and then partying afterwards.

Last Friday of every month, 7pm at the north end of Union Square.

Check on the Critical Mass website, they have them in a lot of cities all over the world.

Did you read that the CM in Buffalo was attacked by the police there?  Honest, they were beating people up.  Fortunately, NYC police have better things to do, like worry about getting home in one piece.

I really do recommend this ride (at least in NYC).  It's a great way to see the city.

I didn't hear about the CM in buffalo. I don't think it was a chance thing, or just the cops having nothing better to do. It can happen anywhere that someone in the right position decides they're sick of CM. From a certain point of view, a thousand people riding around and disrupting traffic is an act of terrorism.

Apparently, since then the cops have left them alone.

Maybe we can somehow convince the world that this _is_ terrorism.  Can you imagine?  Underground cells from Belfast to Bagdad, RIDING BICYCLES AND BLOCKING TRAFFIC!  That'll show the imperialist dogs.

Huh. I heard someone was arrested in the NY one too.... This one looks like it might've been worse though.

I rode Critical Mass in Chicago and there have been troubles there a few times with cops from a certain station - now the rides avoid that part of town
