LP/ EP?

what do they mean in terms of music cd's?

It comes from records. Long Play and Extended Play.

An EP is usually 5 or 6 songs with maybe 20 minutes of music, an LP is usually 40 minutes or more of music and around 10 songs.

So does the term "record" like "We just released a new record." It's interesting the double meaning here, a record, as in a record of events, and a record as in a black disc you put on a phonograph.
