Field Day Festival News

Ok, I'm not a New Yorker, so I guess I'm kind of cheating here, but I do have a New York area-related question:  I was just wondering if anyone on this forum is/was planning on going to the Field Day Music Festival ( http://www.fielddayfest.com ) June 7th and 8th on the north fork of Long Island.

For the last month or so, I have been planning on flying out there from Colorado to attend, but in the last few days I have been seeing several news stories saying that the event is going to be cancelled due to issues of under-policing and environmental concerns put forth by the locals.  Of course, TicketMaster and the concert promoter are still claiming that the show is going to go on as planned, and that all the news stories are premature.

Since I would assume that this story has been getting some coverage on the local news there, I would greatly appreciate it if anyone would post what they've heard about it.

Of course, either way, my plane ticket is already booked, so if everything is cancelled, I'm still pretty confident that I can find enough ways to entertain myself out there! ;-)

I've been hearing the same rumours.... I don't know where you would go to get the scoop. I don't know why they didn't do it at Randalls Island where they hold the Warped Tour & had Lollapalooza.

I've got a ticket too... to tell you the truth, I've not heard much about it in the news, aside from searches on news.google.com. We'll see what happens!

My friends are all talking about it. I think some friends of friends organized Field Day... As you can imagine, it's a hot topic amongst that whole crowd.

Me, on the other hand, I live under a rock and didn't know what Field Day was until one of them mentioned it to me the other night. I wonder if I can swindle free tickets...

It looks like they won their court case yesterday so it's on again.

Well, looks like the original plan for an outdoor camping fest is toast.  Too much red tape, and too little time.  Supposedly, they're relocating the concert to Giants Stadium and tickets go on sale today at 5pm on Ticketmaster.com.

My plane tickets are already booked, so I'm going out there no matter what happens.  Anything particularly interesting going on this weekend that I might want to check out?

Thanks for the updates.

Why they didn't go for Randalls Island I'll never know. Cost?

"All Info Subject to Change"

Is it just me or was this note more prominent than on other websites? lol.

Pick up a Village Voice (free in Manhattan) and a Time Out New York.

I have no idea why they didn't go for Randalls Island, either.  I'm not thrilled about flying across the country for a typical stadium rock show.  Oh well, that's why I'm going to keep my eyes open for other happenings.

Oh, and yes, "All info subject to change" needed to be at the top of the screen in about 72 point font!!!

One of my friends said that if Field Day doesn't happen it just proves to her that New York can't pull off these kinds of shows.

Well... isn't Giant Stadium in Jersey?

How are you set on a hotel for the saturday/sunday overnight you thought you were gonna be camping?

So is _that_ how fog makes all it's money... scalping bogus tickets to cancelled concerts. heh heh.

That remind me of a time around 10 years ago that I was in midtown Manhattan in the evening, and this guy comes up to me and asks if I want tickets to see I N X S, and I said "InExcess" and he said "Insects?"

I laughed and walked on. Was that you Michael?

Sucky. What about lollapalooza. It might be worth it just to see Janes Addiction. Since it's not a NY only festival, they may pull it off.
