Google hiring in New York
Just heard through the grapevine that Google is hiring software engineers for research, development, and especially the google toolbar who will work out of their Manhattan office. Apparently they want to hire about 20 people here, who will work on all Google projects including research.
So, if you've always wanted to work for Google but didn't want to relocate, now's the time!

Joel,
Thank you for the information. Do you know if they are hiring any Project Managers and also non-local candidates? Thanks.

Project managers: I'm not sure, it's possible. Check out the jobs listing page at Google. From what I understand all the engineering jobs are now available in New York >or< Mountain View unless they specifically mention one location.
Non-local candidates: if you mean, "can I interview for the job and then move to NYC if I take it," I would guess the answer is yes, as long as you're willing to relocate. If the question is "can I telecommute from Aspen," my impression has been that Google doesn't like remote telecommuters as a matter of principle which is why they're establishing a development center in the city.
But... I don't speak for Google, these are just what I've gathered from working for them in the past.

Thanks for the reply, Joel.
I didn't find any typical Project Manager listing on Google.com. I will try to contact them directly.
What I meant by non-local candidates, is I don't live in NYC but willing to relocate. Once again, thank you very much.

Joel,
Do you know if these positions will be at their current NYC sales office which seems to be just a few blocks from GCT?

Hmm. I asked (via jobs@google.com) on April 2:
[ ... ] A colleague of mine has brought to my attention a rumor that Google is looking to hire software engineers and researchers in the New York City area. As no such positions are listed on the Google Jobs website, I was hoping you could confirm or deny this. [ ... ]
I haven't heard anything back yet, and there still don't appear to be any postings on their jobs page. Joel, were you given any information on when they were looking to do this?

I should probably have mentioned: i saw that you said the listed engineering postings are available in either location, but if that were the case, it seems strange that they would still specifically state that the positions are only for their Valley offices.
I know you're just passing along what you heard, but weird.

They've definitely started the process. Bryant Park office, too. Cool.
