Area companies w/ a "West Coast" mgmt style

If you've been reading Joel's essays then you know what I mean by "West Coast", so I'll just get to the point. FogCreek, and Joel, obviously use this style of mgmt. My company, LinksPoint, also uses this style to some extent.

I'm interested to find out what other Metro area companies are enlighted in this way, because to my limited knowledge, FogCreek and LinksPoint are the only two. What other local tech companies use a West Coast style?

I must have missed that article, can you point me to it?

I think what dmooney was talking about was this article about Juno and Microsoft mgmt styles that differed.

This reminds me of the Silicon Valley mgmt model Charles Ferguson and Charles Morris talked about in Computer Wars back around the time IBM almost collapsed before Lou Gerstner . ( )

Microsoft and Intel fell into this category.  It overlaps, if not coincides, with the West Coast model.  The book came out around 1992 but they reprinted last year.  It talks about other things like how "architecture wins technology wars," control of de facto industry standards, and of course, management styles that are critical to success.
