Seen the new Freedom Tower design?

It sucks.

I guess the design was also influenced by the blackout... They're also including windmills that can supply up to 20% of the energy for the building. Clever putting windmills in the sky where it's windy.

So.. Out of work NY tech workers, wanna switch to construction? Hope you're not afraid of heights.

Having done a lot of renovations to my house, I'm getting to be pretty handy with a paint brush.  Now all I need to do is lose my job.  Reading more forum posts is probably a good step in that direction ;)

Another glass and steel monstrosity to blot out the sky.  No worse than the original towers, really.

What I'm really ticked off about is how crappy all of the memorial designs are.  They're just too complicated and abstract to evoke anything.  Wasn't there some notion to keep that multistory shard that was left standing as a memorial?  Now THAT would have said something.

That's a nice positive attitude.

What about the NY Times building in Times Square?

http://194.185.232.3/works/064/index.asp ( http://www.rpwf.org/ )

"... and will make it get a different color, according to the atmosphere: bluish after the rain, shimmering red at sunset.

... Another notable feature is that the lobby of the building is very open, transparent and permeable. At ground level, a large internal garden will be accessible to all, visible from the street, thereby creating multiple transparencies throughout the block from 40th to 41st streets.

... The idea to install a roof garden, which is in consideration, would be the opposite of that on the ground floor. While the ground level of the building engages the street and its daily rites, the roof garden would be a place of silence and contemplation."

He wants to make the building that isn't there. While looking up at it, it's supposed to fade into the sky.

Hello Everyone,

As an aside, has anyone seen the Syd Mead designs for the replacement of the TT's?

Absolutely stunning, as is the case with Mr.Meads designs.

Head over to:

It's very spikey and dark ages looking. Very menacing.

I can't get the images to load -- can someone post a direct link?

I note at the bottom of that page, he uses the letter O in "2OO2". I see that a lot in numbers -- capital O in place of 0. Who do these people think they're fooling?

I found it exciting and while out of place, it kinda fits too!
The practicalities of having something like that in NYC maybe somewhat...difficult I would imagine....but it grabs your attention and it's an amazing structure - something that the trade center was, in my opinion.

I've seen a few designs for the proposed freedom plaza but nothing official, I'll have to search the interweb!

uhm....also, forgive my ignorance, but what with the reference on the capital OO over double zeros?
I never noticed that but I'd like to know the significance!!!!
