Independent contractor in NYC

I’m considering getting contract work in NYC, but i would fly out of the city every weekend, since i can’t relocate permanently. I’m looking at Java position available on DICE and i’m wondering if it is realistic to think i’ll be able to charge at least 90$/h for at least 44 weeks a year. I have a solid resume with *nix, c++, java and 7 years of experience.

I’m thinking 90$ is probably too much, but to make my traveling worth it, that is the minimum i can charge. I should probably wait until i can relocate permanently, but i’m trying to jumpstart the process by doing this now. I would appreciate any comment.
