NYC Streets
Just wondering, how NYC streets are divided? I mean there's 59th street and then there's 9th street. Any way for a new expat to remember or understand this concept, and recognise the street's.

AVENUES
Basically 1 - 10.. there's an 11 somewhere, and in the East Village once you ge past 1 they become letters, A, B, C, D, etc. "Alphabet City."
You glean what corner typically from context. If I say meet me on 1st and 10th where would you meet me? I'd be at 1st avenue and 10th street.
These run north south and you count from east to west.

STREETS
Start around houston street in the village and run... into the hundreds. The streets run east to west and you count them from north to south.

5th avenue is the dividing line between East and West, and every street is 100 numbers... 250 East 33rd street is between 2nd and 3rd avenues.
5th avenue to 4th avenue = 0 - 99 East
4th avenue to 3rd avenue = 100 - 199 East
etc.
5th avenue to 6th avenue = 0 - 99 West
etc.
Sorry if I packed this post densely...
