Digital Signage Software
Hi,
I’m currently doing some research into the digital signage software market. I’m wondering does anyone have experience with this industry? Specifically, I’m looking for customizable software that enables electronic content distribution over a variety of mediums (Ethernet, Wireless, I’m not sure what else). I’m not at all familiar with this industry, so forgive me for my ignorance. Thanks in advance for the help.

Yes, someone does.
What specifically did you want to know?

If all you want is signing stuff, have a look at http://www.w3.org/TR/xmldsig-core/ .
You'll find broad support for it in Windows, .NET, Java, you name it.
Most of the time people want more than just signing stuff though. They want to easily ascosiate the signature with an entity that is verified by a trusted party. This is where PKI comes into play. Again, this is well supported on most platforms (though .NET before 2.0 requires calling on Windows for this a lott if you want to avoid 3rd party libraries).

Uh, I may be wrong but I took 'signage' to mean advertising type content distribution rather than signature as in authentication.
Maybe the OP should clarify.
Or maybe I'm stupid...

Ok, I now realize that I wasn’t clear in my initial request and I apologize for that. I’m looking for software (or software components) that enables the distribution of multimedia content to display devices. I need to build a prototype of a system that delivers video and advertising to a hard drive based device over LAN/WAN/Wi-Fi/Satellite. The device should contain a player that is used to display the content. So far I’m only familiar with a few companies that produce this kind of software. They include:
Scala

Wirespring
http://wirespring.com
Mercury Online Solutions

I’m still not sure if I’m heading in the right direction, but this is information I’ve gathered so far.
Thanks

You say a 'hard drive based device' - is this a pre-existing device that you already have or are you prepared to look at manufactured devices as well?

Hi James,
This is a pre-existing device that the client has chosen, but I’m also interested in looking at manufactured devices as well.
