Tool for changing display several folders?

You know how in Windows XP you can change the layout of a folder to show details, or thumbnails?
And how you can choose to order them by name, dat or whatever?
And how you can organise the files by group, right?

It seems that this can be done either for one folder at a time, or all folders, but not a selected number of folders.

Now, I don't want all folders to display the same, but I also do not feel like changing every single folder manually, because there are just so many.

Do you know of a tool that would allow me to do this more conveniently?
And while you're at it, that would allow me to change the display of a disks root folder? Because every now and then Windows seems to think my disks root folder contains video files and there is no way to change it back to documents from the root folder's properties.

I hate working with i.e. TortoiseSVN and have to manually switch on details and extra details (author etc.) on every damn folder.
