Visio 2002 or 2003? I'm looking through my MSDN discs, and I notice there's a disc labeled "Visio for Enterprise Architects 2003". Thinking that I only had Visio EA 2002 installed, I figured I'd go ahead & upgrade. I put the disc in, and it says Repair or Uninstall. So I figure maybe I already have 2003. I also notice there's a service pack for Visio 2003. So I download the SP and try to run it. "Didn't find expected version of Visio." So I uninstall Visio, and reinstall it from the "Visio for Enterprise Architects 2003", disc #2084.1. It installs, and the version number is 10.0.2705.

Sounds like the version for Visual Studio is being used interchangeably with Visio's actual version.

My Visio 2003 Professional SP1 is version 11.4301.5606 if that helps :)

Vision Ent Arch included with VS.NET2003 is actually Visio 2002 with a different title. I haven't proded deeply into it but I think that Vision2002 from OfficeXP is just like VisioEnt Arch included with VS.NET2003. Either way, I simply started using Office 2003 and Visio 2003.

My theory is that MS royally screwed up the versioning of Visio 2002, 2002/3 EA and 2003. They aren't interchangeable (i.e. files made on 2003 aren't compatible with 2003 EA) and if you have 2 versions installed at once the Windows Installer service screws up and tries to install Visio each time you run Word.

I once was called (on the phone) by a Microsoft person asking about my purchase of Visio Pro 5. She wanted to know if I would upgrade to Visio 2000. I said no. She asked why. (note that Visio 5 was the LAST non-microsoft Visio version).
