Ai, Ai, Ai I hate you very much...

The recent thread on Reporint Services made me go wonder again why I haven't actually gone and installed it and evaluated it.

And then I realised.

It needs IIS running on the server. 

Now I might be dumb, very often I feel dumb, but it doesn't strike me as an absolute requirement that you're going to want to open your kimono in quite the blantant way IIS tends to do just to run a Reports Server.  And even if I do want to make reports available as some kind of web document why only IIS?

This isn't the only dependancy on IIS that irritates me but that list would exceeding boring.

It's called pushing the party line.  Most of Microsoft's server products do it.  That's why other alternatives are looked at strongly.
