Registering for a 14-day trial membership at InformIT gives you a ticket. In addition, some of these links from my collection offer free online books:

I maybe wrong, but if you are looking for some old classics or some other out of copyright fiction or even some non-fiction, you should be able to spend quite some time at Project Gutenberg (1) or links from sites such as those of John Ockerbloom of the University of Penn. (2). But if you are after Technical Computer Science resources, previous posters have already offered you with a number of links.

While there are plenty of poor college students who post here. Many JOS forum posters are professional software developers (we get paid to program). While we had to fork over a lot of money for books and don't like doing so, many of us believe that stealing intellectual property is just plain wrong -- even when the property being stolen is only a couple of expensive computer books.

Honestly, how long does it take for people who want to illegally copy things to learn they are not going to get much sympathy here?

Guys if he was to raise his rates so he could afford those books, he wouldn't be able to compete with us to steal our jobs! So cut the poor guy some slack!

Good point, Dennis. I wonder if Bill Gates would let me skip the ante and just join his next poker game with other billionaires?

So you want warez. I know a warez site for technical books. It got almost all the best selling programming books that you can buy.
