GMail Advertisements are wonderful !

For the first time, i actually thanked an advertisement.
I was doing some research on some ancient river- material on which is hard to collect. I sent a couple of mails through GMail and lo behold !, i get a few sponsored links taking me to websites and articles excatly what i wished for !.

It also means that GMail has penetrated very very deep into the common culture. Its not just for nerds.

I honestly don't notice the ads most of the time.

It's not like Yahoo which now seems to accept adds with audio.

I've been saying that very thing to magazines in which we advertise, for nearly a decade.

Put ads on contextually appropriate places and it won't be an annoying ad, it'll be  appreciated information.

I'm a rock climber. If I get ads on knitting, that's junkmail. But ads about new climbing equipment is INFORMATION.

How do the rest of us get an invite to try out Gmail?

Monday, July 12, 2004

By knowing someone already in the loop.

I have two invites, but they're already claimed by others.

I use AdMuncher which snips the ads before they reach the socket opened by the browser, - I wouldn't know.

The only time I've noticed them is when I've gone looking for them!

They're in a smaller font, off to the side and don't draw attention to themselves!
