There are two or so companies that still make Acorn-compatible (ARM-based) computers. The OS is still being developed. But Acorn themselves have now transformed into ARM and make CPU designs.

The operating system is being developed by RiscOS Ltd (
Castle Technology ( still produce computers from the same mould.

I used to be a great fan before moving over to the dark side! If only they produced the eqivalent of .Net for RiscOS.

Acorn computers were stunning in their day. But as years went by they were not improved, while PC clones seemed to be getting 10% faster every couple of months.

But in their day, wow.

Yep I had one of those back in the day and wrote some games for it. The OS was pretty good stuff for it's time and quite fun to program. Still miss certain aspects of the RISC OS UI over windows...

I have a half-assed notion that Acorn and Apple should have teamed up on the ARM instead of Apple using the 68k.

Yes, ARM assembly code is very nice to work with. Relatively speaking.
