Better web apps: Bytesloaded and Bytestotal

What about a way to create progressbars when uploading files.
My customers allways thinks something is wrong when uploading huge files (1MB ;)) and they cancel the progress.

We displayed an animated gif of a progress bar.  It did the trick, although they complained about it going back to the beginning for larger files.

Yea I did a similar thing

1. When submiting open a modal dialog with a dog running around

2. When entering the next page, close the dialog onLoad

It works if you are using frames

Create the pop up script for the dialog in a frame you are not using.

And in your upload form
call the script. Eg.
FORM onSubmit="myUselessFrame.createTheDialog()"

and in the 2nd page
BODY onLoad="myUselessFrame.closeTheDialog()"

It is good enough, but it would be nice to have a true progress.

Even Flash can't handle this truly without ALOT of hacking around.
