The number of posts... The number of posts in this forum is a function of a free available time. The more messages posted by an individual, the less he or she is busy. Seriously, what you think?
Not A Guru
That's the way it works for me.
Hmm, not for me. I post more when Im in the productive mode. The days when I post alot are also the days when I write alot of code.

Not A Guru, I think you are absolutely right. The only comment I like to add is when you spend your time on JOS, most of my posts are after-work. You shouldn't spend billable hours surfing JOS unless you are checking on whether someone has answered your OP.

Posting to internet message boards is definitely a zero-sum activity.

I post most when I am at my keyboard being productive, I use JoS as 5 minute breathers every so often. It keeps me amused and fresh.
Aussie Chick
It is called mult-tasking, I am IRC, googlegroups, this forum, yahoo groups, regular-job, hobby projects, all in 8 hours.

I check JOS after completing pieces of work, so more posts means more success.
I've always found time, even in the busiest projects, to mentally unwind for a second and post a couple of pompous, self-righteous diatribes. I guess it depends on how you fill your downtime: Some people look out the window, others hang around the water cooler, and some post on message boards.

Some hang out in pubs! I need a drink, what a Monday, er, Tuesday, anyone in Toronto for a drink?

Joel must be extremely busy these days then, by your hypothesis. I don't think he's posted much for ages.

There is definetly a positive correlation between the number of posts by me and the state of my depression. This is only indirectly linked to productivity.
Just me (Sir to you)
Hmmmmm, and how long have you been connecting this calculus of depression and typing into text boxes?
Simon Lucy
Agree with the OP

Well, the couple of posts here on how boring this place has become, is perhaps my cue adding to many such previous comments here. I am a relatively new entrant here and I shall stop adding to your boredom.
