Bored and want to program something...

I have a  lot of free time lately and am interested in creating a new program, but can't think of anything to make.  I've looked into the help wanted section of sourceforge and nothing sounds _too_ interesting.  Most likely want to make a C++/MFC app but can't think of any ideas.  Does anyone have any suggestions/advice to fill my programming urges...

I could use an Active Directory bulk user tool - something that pulls users into a grid (including custom attributes) and allows adding and editing.

Thanks!

How about this.
2 player game that has 10x10 grid of dots
You click 2 dots and connect a line
Turns alternate.
If you close a box (draw the 4th side) , the box gets your color  (sort of like Othello)

Extension:  also, make it work so you can bound more than a 1x1 box.  (ie: larger rectangles)

Write a natural language parser that builds context dependent parse trees, adjusting itself dynamically as more statements are input.  Allow ambiguous statements.

Migrate a system from an old version of Lotus Domino to ASP.NET, C# and MS SQL Server.

I'll watch while you work.

I second the NLP, but I'm not sure what the poster meant when he said ''adjusts itself dynamically''.  Search for CMU's ''link grammar'' project.

A union of Winamp and Tivo.  Let me store internet radio shows to disk, then play them back at my leisure.  Let me pause, rewind, and fast forward.

I've been listening to Sci Fi radio from the 30s and 40s (live365 is pretty kewl, when it works), it really sux when someone comes into your office.  "Hey man, can you come back in 15 minutes?  I'm really into this show!" just don't cut it.

Write a game.  If you pick a simple enough concept, you can have something playable in a few days of effort.

Write another programming language with exact specification as C# and call it Joe#. It'd be a fun exercize for your brain muscles.

Then create a blog called joeonjoe# and give me people all sorts of hollier than thou attitude. You might get invited to give speaches in lieu of free food.

Cosmo will be back soon!
