Help me come up with a name!
I'll be developing small desktop utilities and applications - mainly Internet-aware and/or organizing applications. So, I'll also need to maintain a website to advertise and sell the products. Help me come up with a domain name.

Seriously, sorry if the above sounds a little harsh, but I think this is something that would be best done with people who know you better and--more importantly--people who know what your products actually are...

If it was good enough for Peter Norton, should be for you.

And another good reason _not_ to use your name as part of your company name. If you ever want to sell the company, you're also going to be selling your name along with it.
There's also the psychological factor - if the company is failing, could you admit defeat if it had your name? or do the right things to correct problems? And what about if it did fail?
Many years ago (10+) there was an article in a programmer's tool catalog about starting your own software & consulting business written by someone who started one. His advice was to _not_ name it after yourself, mainly for the reasons I stated above.
Last time I was laid off, I considered starting my own company and did a bit of thinking about the name. I think Joel did the right thing with Fog Creek (it's not SpolskySoft.com) - a relatively generic name that's still memorable. Fog Creek Software could do consulting (as it did) or write any type of packaged software without having to change its name.

You need a name that's cutting edge, like Cutco, Edgecom... Interslice.

Whatever you do, avoid the annoying pseudo-scientific-or-something-sounding names like "solipsys", "empirix", "quantonix". What the hell is up with those, anyway...
