Quikview.exe on Win2K

This is idiotic. There's no Quikview.exe on Win2K. Also, I searched on google. There's no download available. M$ says with Win2K it's not available. The behavior is by design. It was so nice. Why did M$ stop giving it. Does anybody know, where can I get it??? I need it badly.

Quickview was a light weight file viewing application that would open just about anything.  If you pointed it an executable it would give you whatever information it could find in the executable, if you pointed it at a word file it would give you whatever it could find in that word file.

Quite frankly, I found it to be very useful myself, but I haven't seen a good replacement either and generally end up using notepad.

That guy did an upgrade or he got Quikview somewhere else. My Windows XP Pro installation doesn't even have a Windows\Viewers folder.

Quikview in practice turned out to be, er, not so quick. :-) It was usually no faster than just opening the actual application, so I expect that's why MS killed it.

If so no I did a fresh install of Windows XP Home French. However maybe the difference is that I have Office 2000 Eng Pro installed.

BTW I made a mistake it's: C:\WINDOWS\system32\Viewers

Other facts: The whole of Windows Update + .NET SDK + IE 6 SP1. Some third party appz.

I loved quick view. It had two big advantages. Firstly it allowed you to view files you suspected had a virus, and seoondly you could use it with files that were too corrupt to open.

Windows\System32\Viewers doesn't exist on my system either. That's XP Pro with Office 2003 installed. Either Quikview is an XP Home extra that's not in Pro (but I doubt that), or you got it with Office 2000.

I think also that it was Office 2000 Pro that installed it as after looking at it, I noticed that it was in english while all other system tools are in French.

I usally do a full install of Office 2000 Pro, every and each component.

Looking at the DLL Help database (who knew you could use it for exes?)  it shipped with Win 95/98/NT and Office 2000

Probably an optional install because I have Office 2000 but no quikview.

But, for me the value was in viewing dlls and exes, so speed was as compared to opening a cmd window for dumpbin.
