Longhorn in 2007. To include WINFS

http://www.infoworld.com/article/04/05/12/HNlonghorn_1.html

Excerpt

<<Longhorn, the next major server OS release, is now targeted for 2007. Its major new features will include the WinFX platform, including Avalon for mostly client-side graphics, Microsoft's next generation file system WinFS, and the Web services messaging system Indigo. >>

Who cares? The date will change anyway.

What I really want to know... will there be ANY relevant MS product release until February 2005, or did I completely waste those 1000+ euros on the MSDN Pro subscription that I extended hoping for Whidbey?

I think the point is that it will include WINFS. They previously said Longhorn would not include it.

I, for one, welcome our new sql-like filesystem masters.

"I think the point is that it will include WINFS. They previously said Longhorn would not include it."

I believe they said that they were scaling back the scope of WinFS rather than removing it. Nothing in this announcement says to me that they're reversing the previous decision to reduce the functionality of some features.

Dennis is right (surprise!).  Looks like it will be at least 2009 before the fancy WinFS features are added:

FYI:

Longhorn = Client = 2006 (for now)
Longhorn Server = Server = 2007 (for now)

WinFS, in client, is as intact as it ever was.
WinFS, on the server, as a central network store - in doubt.

That is all.  You may now return to your regularly scheduled FUD.
