Shareware or Freelance programming ?

I am a programmer and am trying to make money over the internet. I found shareware and freelence programming.
Which is better? what are the advantages and disadvantages of each ?

Shareware: you probably won't pay the bills unless you have the talent and determination to build something that is widely popular, but you have total control over your work.

Freelance: you can pay the bills, but you'll have little control over your work.

Pick one.

I'll second the comment on freelancing...


If you're looking for more stable and/or longterm frelancing, you generally need some face-to-face interaction, so this isn't the easiest to do over the internet.

I'm not saying it's impossible though.
