VRML is "alive" right now (in the sense that it's a zombie).

There's SVG as a 2D 'vector graphics' format (supported by the w3c).  X3D is a fairly popular 'open' 3D format.

Why do you ask?  Are you looking for export formats for your program?

I thought X3D was developed by the successor organization to  whoever put together the VRML standard.
