A Programmer/developer learns constantly new things and have to work according to some assumptiions which he/she think can point to a better future.

1. Reading Newsgroups
2. Reading joel etc.
3. Coffee
4. Exercise
5. Posting in forums
6. Coding
A. Fast
B. Intelligent
C. Presentable
D. Unpresentable
7. Social Skills:
A.  Speak with Boss
B. Avoid Boss
8. Development

B. New Hardware is cheap.

etc..

You know what I am hinting towards.
Our Assumptions may not be right all time. Do we take time to evaluate this 'assumptions'? ( Sometime they are automatic). They could be generated by fact. But not all time.

What are your assumptions?

I think Mike was posting ironically.

OP said "our assumptions are often wrong - how do you evaluate your assumptions" and Mike posted a bit of FUD - in effect, an assumption which may be wrong and should be periodically reexamined. Except Mike posted it as a statement, indicating that he takes it at face value without reevaluating it.

Validating OP's point.

Nicely done!
