Joel deleted thread because of his bad prediction?

I don't know if it was in this forum or the Ask Joel forum, but a few days back someone asked whether Google would do a Dutch Auction and Joel countered that they wouldn't because by taking a non-traditional route they would scare away many investors.

Now Google has announced that they will essentially do a Dutch Auction and I can't find the thread with the bogus prediction in it anymore (not even by searching using Google :-) )

Actually I deleted it because I wasn't happy with my response, which amounted to not much more than showing off and very little useful insight.

But I'll put it back if you miss it:

Ok since you said it, come clean, how did you get the Google shares?  Are you a member of an Angel group or something?

This new humble amenable Joel persona is worrying. Has he been kidnapped by aliens or something?

Oh the joys of being the guy who owns the place.
Now when I say something dumb, it just stays there for all the world to see.....*grin*

"what was the purpose of your post anyway?"

girl geeks are entirely sexy creatures.

every time she posts I ask myself "who _is_ that wondrously feminine creature of passion and code, and how can I seduce her?"

She'll probably remind you that she's married.

The accent would get on your nerves eventually anyway...

Not all Aussies have accents like Crocodile Dundee or the Crocodile Hunter. People with those irritating accents are mostly found in the country or in Victoria or on Baywatch.

Some counter examples - Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman, Naomi Watts.

I love Aussie accents. Especially that cute kid who was nominated for Oscar. I forgot her name.

Her name is Keisha Castle-Hughes - and she's bl@@dy hell from New Zealand, which is (against all other ideas you might have) NOT a part of Australia

Is there enough of a difference between Aussie and Kiwi accents to tell them apart?

Oh, there certainly is a difference ... it's maybe not as strong a between American and British English, but imagine a Canadian talking to someone from New York ;)

Excert from an enzyclopedia website:
"Although foreigners can find it hard to distinguish the New Zealand dialect from the Australian, there are differences in the pronunciation of vowel sounds, which are considerably more clipped in New Zealand English. (Canadians face a similar problem, frequently being mistaken for U.S. Americans by non-North Americans.) The main distinguishing sounds are the short 'i' and 'e' "
