Are you the guy who asked for the top 10 best software companies?
Anyway... Any particular interest in location, size, gender distribution, manager-to-programmer ratio?
And what exactly do you mean by "looks good to work at"?
You mean you want places _only_ "looking" good to work at or actually good to work at?
What do you mean by "good to work at" anyway? You want a personal office with a door? Good salary? Reasonable working hours? Short commute? A free minibar?
By the way, what will you do with the list anyway? Looking for a job? Looking to buy a few good companies?

How about one criteria being that the company act as if someone with decision making authority at least saw a copy of Peopleware on a bookshelf at some point in the past? Or is that too much to ask?

Hi grunt, no, I didn't ask that question but I just found it - http://discuss.fogcreek.com/joelonsoftware/default.asp?cmd=show&ixPost=127616
But that's not really what I'm after, I was looking for smaller companies. When I say "looks good to work at", I have never worked at FogCreek, but if I had to make a guess I would it would be good to work there. Why? Nice offices, nice people, good products. I get the same impression about Frogware.
What do I want to do with the list? Nothing in particular. It just brings a smile to my face to see a small software company providing a good place for their employees to work and producing some good software in the meantime.
Another one for the list - http://www.panic.com
