Text Smileys to emoticons

Hi.

I have created an application that automatically turns all text smileys into emoticons.  It can be found at http://www.google-apps.com/autosmiley/autosmiley.php

Would appreciate your feedback.

Nice and simple.

Personally I've always thought of and used :o| as a sort of stunned amazement. Not a criticism, just a personal observation.

Nice and simple...although yahoo might have something to say about your using their emoticons ;-)

May I raise a point that could save lots of money?

Anyone who uses that on their own page/site will be loading the JS file from your sites, as well as all the emoticon GIF's.

Suggestion - zip up the JS file and emoticon GIF's and provide that as a download, with instructions on how to embed the JS file in their own HTML.

Thanks for all your comments!

Dan G: I know that bandwidth may be an issue, but i figured that the browser will cache the JS file and graphics so it won't be such a huge drain.

Bleh: There are probably 100 other smileys that I could have added.  The reasons I did not are:
1) Yahoo didn't have the other 100 emoticons :)
2) I chose the more common emoticons that also happen to be more easily memorised.

Jack of all: I get your point. But as I was browsing the net, i realised there are no standards for text smileys. A smile could be :) or :-).  Certainly, my symbols have limitations.

Did you guys try Glocal News?

cheers, and thanks for the feedback!
