Wondering if BeOS is alive

I browsed some BeOS sites this weekend but I failed to understand what's the current status of this OS.

What's also the status of OpenBeOS and YellowTab's Zeta?

Im not into beos at all, but as far as I remeber from reading news and stuff...
Open beos is in alpha except for the kernel. Its a pretty small team, but they apear to be dedicated.

The last version of Beos (5.x?) was released for free and can be downloaded somewhere if you want to play with it.

There is asite out there with a less than obvious name that has alot of info on this.

Now that was helpfull wasnt it?

Ahh the memories of fun times coding away on BeOS into the night. The filesystem rocked, the MediaKit was amazing, the OS was solid, the apps were ... nonexistant.

I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Apple had bought Be instead of NeXT like they almost did. OSX would be BeOS instead of NeXT. But then they wouldn't have gotten back Steve Jobs.

You somehow seem to be aflicted with the notion that Gasse (CEO of Be) was somehow less colorful of a person than Jobs.

BeOS has been acquired by PalmSource, Inc. some time back and its technology is now heavily leveraged in upcoming devices based upon their PalmOS Cobalt architecture.

This will give PalmSource an incredible boost as it seemed only Windows CE based Pocket PCs could have great multimedia features.
