CityDesk and Download.com
I've monitored CityDesk on Download.com for a long time. The download figures weren't that high.
I was surprised today when I saw CityDesk on the main page of Download.com in the "What's new" section with a 4 lines description.
So Joel, is it worth paying for this privilege? Can you give us some statistics about the increase in the number of downloads while you're so "well" exposed on this high traffic site?

I didn't even know you COULD pay for the position... so, no, we didn't.
On the day that appeared we got about 500 extra registered users. By my calculations I usually value a registered user at about $2 (because about 1% of them purchase the full product) so this would have been worth maybe $1000...
BTW download.com is by far the best source of downloaders... we probably get 5 downloads from there for every 1 download from tucows -- I don't even bother keeping the tucows listing up to date any more.

am I the only one that thinks download.com is shite.
used to use it circa '97 but at some point they got bought by cnet, and then they nabbed hotfiles.com too. (I think)
Now, when I get presented with download options, I normally avoid the download.com one.
Maybe things have changed.
Note to self... look into download.com sometime soon
