Windows PE

Has anyone written a custom shell for WinPE?  I need some references.

A custom shell for the Windows Portable Executable format?  Eh?

You don't by any chance mean "Windows CE"?

As a sidenote: I translated a French text containing "Windows CE" today, using the Google translator. The target language was English and "Windows CE" came out translated as "Windows EC" everywhere. Go figure.

Probably translating from CE "Communauté européen" to EC "European Community".

Going in the reverse direction, "EC" translates to "LA CE" and "EEC" to "LA CEE".

You'll nearly always reverse because French and Spanish put the adjective after the noun, not before as in English.

"C'est un grand garçon avec un sourire lumineux" ... in French at least, the order varies.

Generalizations are always wrong.

1.go to www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en and type
"my mom is nice and cool" into translate box
2. convert it from English to Spanish
3. Then copy&paste the answer into the translate box and convert from Spanish to English

enjoy!

"PE" == "Pre-execution Environment". (I guess MS didn't want to call it "PEE" == "Pre-Execution Environment"...)

Anyway,  there is allegedly info available on the microsoft.com site, but I've never bothered trying to track it down. I do, however, use http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ often. It's a great  tool for building bootable WinXP CD. I use it (plus robocopy from the Windows Resource Kit) to make *complete* backups of my systems, including registry files and other typically "hard to copy" files.

Thanks guys.. i did manage to get enough info to write a test shell and add.. and yes.. it is Windows PE - not Windows CE, Windows EC or CE Windows or EC Windows or what ever you guys have been thinking...

Thanks Keith, I did read info on the nu2 site.

Thanks a lot
