asp.net web reporting

Any good recommendations on a report writer for asp.net/c#. We need the client to be able to save the report to pdf and xml also. We will design all the reports and include them in the application, so we won’t need any ad-hoc reporting for the client.

We tried using the built in Crystal, but didn’t have much success.

You're probably fishing for this answer, but I'll give it anyway.

Oops, failed to mention that we are going against Oracle, not SQL Server.

Thanks,

Reporting services can handle Oracle.

More to the point, Reporting Services can handle *any* OLEDB data source, XML, web services, ODBC (I think)...

We know of a company that has a huge Sybase installation and put in a single SQL Server to run Reporting Services against their back end.

You can get a SQL Server trial CD, which will also give you a trial license for Reporting Services - try it out. :)

And I'll say, having just set ours up this week.

It rocks.

A couple of us have just installed Reporting Services, but haven't had a chance to play around with it yet. Any more positive results with it? We have been using Crystal for quite some time and no one likes it.

Philo, what do you think. In the past I have noticed non-SQL Server shops get in a SQL Server alongside just to run Analysis Services. Will Reporting Services drive another round of SQL Server in this way?

Absolutely - it's already happening.

I don't know if it's a streak of luck or maturity, but man we've put out some really cool stuff in the past year - stuff that just rocks right out of the box. SharePoint, Reporting Services, InfoPath are some real "wow" apps.
