Internet Explorer 6 Font Troubles

I am attempting to specify font sizes using the scalable fonts (small, medium, large, etc.).  However, in internet explorer 6, the medium looks like a 10pt font and everything smaller is almost unreadable.  Is there a workaround for this?

I have read all of the various CSS hacks but this does not appear to be among them. 

Any insight on this would be greatly appreciated.

My best suggestion to getting this right is to read and follow the advice of this article, as it affects both fonts and content layout.
