I'm sorry, but I have to rant

The company I work for has just spent a considerable amount of money and purchase the cheapest option for a complete system package that, in my opinion, was not just poor choice, but at least in hindsite, a collosal screw up.

Things that it needs to do, it doesn't. Things that it does do, it does badly. Thing that we want it to do, it probably never will. The software is in the midst of a complete re-write. Half is in Delphi/SQL Server, half is uniVerse. There are several areas where you have to enter data in both halves for the app to work.

On top of all this, and the reason for this post, the support for this system is one of the most frustrating systems I've ever found.

Example:

I log a problem on their support website. It's fairly serious with the system crashing, access violations etc. Admittedly I didn't give enough information. So what did they do? They update the call with "Needs more information" and then close the request.

Closed the Request!!! It's a small thing, sure, but most of the issues logged get "Request sent to developers" - closed. It's not closed!!! It's been move to the approriate team!!! Grrrrrr. This shits me so bad I could scream... *sigh*

On a "funny" note, the company's support team can't even email solutions etc to us because their ISP is on the spam lists, probably due to the pr0n sites they also host.

Some days I feel like drawing my lightsabre and going  Anakin on their ass.

Thank you for your time.

What, you mean acting like George Lucas has been shouting at you "Be more wooden! Wooden!"?

"Not nearly good enough!  You make Al Gore look like Johnny Depp!"

Yes, as time goes on I wonder why I'm not in the crappy enterprise software business.

> "Be more wooden! Wooden!"

Isn't it Ron Jeremy's director yelling that?

Well, Jack, why be coy? Name and shame the shoddy vendor. The only thing that can make a bad company shape up is to hit them in the bottom line. Tell me who I shouldn't buy from?

Sounds like they have some system administrators working there. We get the same thing. Collaboration .... not. And half the time the problem arose because the sysadmin changed something on the system without realizing its impact. It almost seems that most sysadmins have their jobs simply from an ability to remember what they did in the past ... and most of them see to be wihout the ability to assimilate new information and evaluate it in relation to what they know.  My rant with yours.
