In-browser WYSIWYG editor (MAC OS 9/PC-IE5)??

Hey folks, I've been searching high and low for the past 4 days for an in-browser WYSIWYG editor applet that will work on the PC (IE 5.X+) AND on Mac OS 9/X.  Please note, Mac OS 9 does not support anything higher than the 1.1.8 java runtime.  For the life of me I can't find anything out there that doesn't cost thousands of dollars for a domain license.  This is for a school district and cannot afford to spend more than $300 on this control.  Editlet(.com) doesn't answer to email requests (my email bounced.)

There are a few flash-based editors (ektron, realobjects, etc.) But none of them are really robust, support images and so on.  Here's a list of editors I've already looked through and found nothing meeting the technical or pricing requirements.  Is there some hidden gem out there that someone knows about that google does not? ;-)

I haven't tried it on IE 5 on the MAC, it depends upon being able to set the textbox as editable.  A Moxilla OS 9 browser build would work fine though.

Simultaneous posting, AccessEdit is a version of htmlarea

Unfortunately it requires Mozilla 1.3.  As unreasonable as it may sound, it must work on what the users already have (Mac IE 5)

HTMLArea works on IE; I haven't tested on the Mac IE, but probably works there too.  If AccessEdit is a fork, it probably will work as well.

It all hinges upon whether Mac IE 5 supports the contenteditable flag. If it does'nt I think youd be hard pressed to find a cheap solution.
Flash maybe?

No, it does not support contenteditable - otherwise freetextbox would do it for me...Flash, none really support images, which is a problem.  Sounds like there's a niche market that needs to be filled, but I don't have the time to write it myself ;-)

Just an FYI, I just got a response from the developers of htmlArea and it will not work on Mac IE.  Thanks for all the suggestions, at this point, I think the Mac users are going to get an ugly textarea and PC users will get a freetextbox control...
