Hiring Again

You guessed it ...

Smart person who gets things done?

I guess I'm not very smart.

What's the relevance here?

Are you from the company, informing people of openings?

I could do the DBA but I am in Toronto :-) Sounds like a pretty stable company.

I work at PH.  I do not represent management.

Matt,

You might want to post this on Simon's website: http://www.IJustHeard.com .

Matt,

You need to find the person who wrote the application for applying to a position and thump them over the head.  I tried to apply for a position there and it wouldn't accept the application because it didn't believe that the city where I live exists. It might be a good idea to post a position for an HR application developer, with a postal address for submission.

One actual data-point is that the ultimate barometer of
the Silicon Valley economy, 101 between San Jose and
San Francisco, is back to its old, stop-and-go self from
about 6 AM to 11 AM.  Traffic had been rather good during
the worst of the tankage - I could zip up to SF from my
house in Mountain View in 40 minutes.  But now it takes
a couple of hours and I always take 280 instead.

JUNIOR .NET DEVELOPER on IJustHeard is such a riot. You can't survive out of a dumpster and a subway pass on $32,000. I have a hard time believing it's that bad in the land of the mainframes.

I agree with Prakash. Joel, couldn't you give IJustHeard a link somewhere so that it is always visible if people hear about jobs at their company?

Thursday, February 12, 2004

There's a big difference between JoS and IJustHeard (other than the fact that the latter is down). That difference is the audience. If I post a job opening on IJustHeard I'm going to get a whole bunch of resumes from unqualified people. On the other hand, most people who regularly read this board are likely to be good candidates.

How do people feel about job postings on this board? My company is hiring, but I feel uncomfortable posting a wanted ad here.

This has been discussed already. Most people tend to think that job ads will attract the wrong audience here, sinking  the quality of the forum.  So please, post your ad elsewhere.

The "quality" of the forum is already sunk by inane h1-b posts, anonymous flamers, and complaints about corporate management.

I have no interest in the specific jobs linked, but I am all for the professional networking. If even 1 in every 10 job posts results in a job for somebody here that seems more valuable than yet another dissertation on why I don't like Hungarian notation.

IJustHeard.com is currently up, though its going down in a few minutes whilst I put some more RAM in it.

I don't advertise the site so the only way its going to work is by word of mouth, probably from here, whether that improves the quality of respondent or not I don't know.
