Hard Drive ...warbling noise..bad sign?
Hi,
I noticed the other day that my hard drive was making a faint warbling sound. As if the spinning noise (normally quiet) was getting louder and software with a periodicity of about 2 seconds.
I disconnected the drive to verify the noise. When I reconnected it again, the noise went away.
Any thoughts?

Back it up, funny noises usually means a drive is soon going to fail.

Yeah! Backup your data and send the HD back for replacement! I had the same problem in november last year. In four days I had a new drive.

It might be a cooling fan on your graphics card. I had a similar situation and that's what it was. I replaced the graphics card and we're all happy.
However, having said that, I have previously had a hard disk crash. It just gave a scratching sound, exactly like you would think heads bashing on the disk would sound, and then the computer froze, for ever. Very sad.
As Joel commented a while back, although I had backups of some form, there was still a lot of work reconciling everything.

Probably a bearing going. Backup and replace.
