What do to when hosting provider lies?

I had my website hosted with Innerhost for 4 years.  Great service, no complaints.  A while ago they were bought by Interland although my site continued to run on Innerhost's servers with no complains.

A few months ago I needed to upgrade to one of Interland's upgraded hosting plans because I needed SQL hosting.  They advertise that they have a bunch of 3rd-party components installed (particularly the image-resizing component from Persists, which my site requires) but not all of them are installed.

Anybody had a similar situation?  Advice?

I was hosting with Hostrocket on the recommendation of some friends.

As I was developing a site it was down so often I was forced to call them. "Oh, we were having some problems with an intall of MySQL, but everything is fine now."

My site was down for 3 more hours.

I can running back to Pair.

Recently there was a near unanimous endorsement of another hosting company that did Windows hosting.

Change hosts? There's about a million of them on the internet.

John,
Can you provide the web site for "image-resizing component from Persists"?
Thanks.

Email Interland's service folks, mention the oversight, and give them a day to get the advertised objects installed.  If they don't, send another email - this time making strong mention of breach of contract, newsgroup and blog postings, along with a call to the BBB.  If they still ignore you, follow up on your threats (especially the BBB call), and switch providers.

Also, at the risk of sounding like a shill at this point - webhost4life.com provides that same component from Persists (along with a few others), and SQL hosting, at 9.95/mo... they respond within minutes for server down issues, but sometimes take longer for lower-priority problems (as you might expect).

Full disclosure: Yes, they do offer a referral program, and yes, if you do decide to switch I'd appreciate if you listed me as that referrer; I won't list my username here however, to try to keep the shilling to a minimum.  If you want to point them to me, just let me know.

Change hosts, and if they take ages to release your domain, then three things always work
Pick up truck, baseball bat and shotgun :)

If you are having a problem with your web hosting company, the first thing to do would be to contact customer service.

We also used interland in 2001, and i do not recommend them. However we tried to manage our site from europe, tech support was horrible, even when we had the highest priced subscription.

in the first 2 cases they were ok, but then there were cases when support didn't answer for 72 hours for our email, only with additional phone calls. again, this was the highest prices hosting option.

There'd be few occasions I can imagine recommending someone use a webhosting service for SQL Server or Oracle if it wasn't a dedicated box, co-located or whatever.

Trying to drop and add stored procedures across a web interface gives me the heeby geebies just thinking of it.

I used to host with a company called Iserver which was the BEST imho for unix based hosting (they used FreeBSD). As they gave me virtually complete control over my sandbox there was little for me to complain about other than my ignorance.  They were bought out by some company that was bought out by some company and I recall I had a problem that was on their side. I did not get results I expected. So on my next email I copied people in Sales and told them that their production side was not delivering on their promises and they could be sure I would not keep quiet about it.  I always like to complain to  sales when I have any trouble with a company.

Best customer service I've ever had coming from a web host was from deafening-urge.net.
