LCD TV/Monitor combo

I have a small apartment, and my living room doubles as my office.

Is there an LCD TV that can also function as a decent monitor? I'm thinking of something around 23" with a wide screen. Something like the sharp aquos 23", perhaps. I want to watch DVDs as well as hook up a shuttle PC.

Alternatively, a good LCD monitor that also functions as a TV would be useful.

Don't get the Aquos, it's not HDTV. Get an HDTV 23" widescreen. Toshiba, Samsung, Zenith, ...

what about the gateway stuff? it seems a lot cheaper than everything else.

Gateway's plasma tvs are EDTV (480p). HDTV starts at 720i.

Can you tell the difference between 480p (DVD quality) and 720i... maybe not, but you certainly can tell 480p from 720p. Of course if it solves your problem, go for the Gateway, just be aware of the technology at hand.

I just got one of the new 20" Dell flat screen monitors at work and I love it. In addition to being a great monitor it has both svideo and component inputs and can do Picture-In-Picture.

I second the motion for the Dell flat panels. I have the FP2000, 20", 1600x1200 native resolution, has DVI, SVGA, SVideo, and composite inputs, as well as picture in picture. I think they are going for less than a kilobuck right now, even less when Dell is running one of their usual deals. DVD movies look great on this.

Too bad it isn't letterbox.

I'm also very pleased with the Dell 20" LCD panel. Its an awesome display and really seems to kill the competition in terms of price/performance.

I'm just toying with the idea of getting another one, so I can have a dual-screen setup. Anyone else got two of these babies ?

I've just bought a 23" wide screen LG LCD (LG is really Lucky Goldstar but they tend not to use that now). As a TV its fine, as a display tool for presentations its fine I wouldn't use it as a desktop though I think my retinas would burn out.
