Please, a good presentation on software selling

Hi,

Can someone point out a great powerpoint presentation that they saw?. I have finished my product - a database administration tool and would like a presentation which is really good, even if it is for other products.

Tufte makes an interesting suggestion, put up a pretty picture and talk. Very often what we want to convey doesn't fit on a slide.

Also, if you have some technical information to convey, perhaps a complicated Visio diagram, print it out and hand it out when you start to talk about it.

I know that's not what you were asking for, but it might help.

i saw Lawrence Lessigs presentation as a Flash Movie somewhere online.

The MS PDC ones were pretty good. - they are availabe online as well.

More than the presentation it is how you deliver that matters, concerate more on that.

I was at a useability meeting (CHIFOO) a while back and someone mentioned a famous presentation (forget the presenter)

Basically, the famous guy started talking and saying things like "behind me you'll see a graph of XYZ showing increasing demand...blah blah".

It wasn't till the presentation was over that everyone realized ....there were NO SLIDES.

The point is: focus first on what you have to say. The slides are PART of your presentation.

Avoid text on your slides. They detract from what you are trying to say.

People then spend time squinting and trying to read text instead of listening to your message

As others have said -- focus on what you want to present. Then suppliment it with the slides.

Screenshots of the product are a good idea.

Animation of using the product is a good idea.

Having a kick ass presentation that is well rehersed and utilizes well-timed display of the above stuff is a fabulous idea.

Put your laptop up on a projector, and actually use the software.
