The Most Popular* Joel Article of 2003 is...

The Absolute Minimum Every Software Developer Absolutely, Positively Must Know About Unicode and Character Sets (No Excuses!)

As well as having the longest title of any Joel Article this one is also the most popular* Joel Article of 2003 with 299 backlinks.

*popularity is measured by the number of pages in the google index that link to this article

The most popular article of all time (so far) is "The Law of Leaky Abstractions", but this article gets such a high score by virtue of being defined as a "favorite" on intertwingly.net - the blog of Sam Ruby.

I have added all of the Joel Articles to the Usability Views collection of articles (6,361 and counting), and you can view the article links in popularity, date or title order.

They were all good, that's why nobody can point one.

The 2003 articles have been pretty weak in comparison to the archive.  Eric Sink has picked up when Joel stopped.

I don't think the 2003 articles have been that weak. That are two things at play here. Firstly the original articles will be what the blogger has been waiting to say for forty-years, whilst the later ones will be what has occurred to him in the time since the last one. Secondly you will remember the very best from the archive, because they are the ones you look up, but not the others.

Eric's anagram is rice.
Joel's anagram is jelo.

Both are things you eat for dessert.

Don't you see the connection?!?
