Has anyone tried Winamp 5 already?

Is it worth the download or is the same junk than winamp 3?

I still use verision 2 and I am very satisfied with it.

I wish commercial software was just like this, where you <want> to keep using the older version.

From what I read, Winamp5 was supposed to be based on Winamp2, adding the functionality (hopefully without the suck factor) of Winamp3.

What happened to Winamp 4?
You're not imagining things. Yes, we skipped a version number for the following reasons:

    * Winamp 5 combines the best aspects of Winamp 2 and Winamp 3 into one player. Hence Winamp 2 + Winamp 3 = Winamp 5!
    * Who the hell wants to see a Winamp 4 Skin :P
    * We think that a Fibonacci sequence for versioning might be pretty damn cool.
    * We improved so much in Winamp 5 that we figured it warranted skipping a version. ;)

Firebird 0.7 isn't that new.

I'm in the same boat... loved 2, hated 3. I love 5!

WinAmp 5 looks different than WinAmp 3 and is full of crap that I don't need.  I click on an MP3 file and WinAmp plays it.  Everything else is unnecessary baggage.

Firebird 0.7 is not new.  It's nice but still has a long way to go.  The current version of Mozilla is still the best browser around.

Mark, you used the term 'we' quite a bit in your post.  Was that intentional, i.e. do you work with winamp?  Or was that just a 'we' that means 'we winamp users'.?

Just curious :)

Andrew, I realized after I posted it didn't make much sense. The first and last sentances were mine. The middle section was from the FAQ which I linked to.
