"Must a surgeon cut the crusts off his sandwiches
I honestly believe that this question requires more honest debate than it received when it was posted.
Its such an interesting mix of feelings....precision, crusty....and the question itself begs for an answer of some kind...
opinions?

Uh, as you quoted it, then I personally think the answer is simply "no"
*But*, if you meant to quote the whole thing:
"Must a surgeon cut the crusts off his sandwiches with a scalpel every time?"
that's a horse of a different color.

Does your chewing gum lose it's flavor on the bedpost overnight?

My point was that just because we have to be so precise when writing code, is it really necessary when posting to a newsgroup?
Personally the crust is my favourite part of the sandwich (and Pizza too). A great big knife that is too big for the job is my preferred instrument when cutting my sandwhich in half, always in a triangular shape.
Triangular sandwhiches always taste better than rectangular ones.

Ged.
How can you dare post such an outrageous statement. No professional would ever eat triangular sandwiches. Cut them into four like a real programmer or be forever known as a corner-cutter ! I am beside myself with furry.

You are oversimplifying the entire issue. The shape of the sandwhich should of course be determined by the filling and type of bread used. For example a peanut butter sandwich should be served halved (not diagonally) but what sane person would serve a cucumber sandwich without removing the crusts and cutting into four triangles?

You do have a point about the cucumber sandwich.
Of course, the really important factor is how much Salad Cream your using.

Lots and you should bear in mind that salad cream sandwiches should not be cut at all - in fact for preference they should be made with unsliced bread in big doorsteps.
Of course, if you find salad cream sandwiches too common (wimps) then Heninz do produce a range of sandwich spreads which are basically diced crunchy vegtables in salad cream.
Excuse me, I feel a little peckish....

Of particular importance too is the beverage served with said sandwich.
Make mine a triple 30yr old.

..naa I'll make do with decent pint - a Bass, a Hobgoblin and maybe a Dogbolter. Heaven.

I prefer my sanwiches to be packed with either enough calories to sink a battleship or enough spice to make my eyes pop out.
And a mixture of the two is always welcome.
The only drink i cannot have with a sandwich is milk, it makes my mouth go all funny (weird, not comical)

Granted it's a year or two since I went to a firkin, but no more dogbolter - heresy. It was the best pint I know - especially at the Frog (closed these many years).
The only thing that came close was the London Stout I had at the Hawk(?) & Firkin in Kensington one year. Apart from the side effect where you left the pub reasonably sober and was paralytic 3 hours later.
