Treo 270 + Palm OS 5.x

I own Treo 270, a phone with Palm OS 3.5.2 H5.7. I want to try some applications which require Palm OS 5.x.

Handspring says that version 5.x - is to work with new hardware. I think from that point Treo 600 adds only digital camera, but what about new software which require Palm OS 5.x, but not hardware.

Is it possible to upgrade Treo 270 to Palm OS 5.x and HOW? Will it run such stable?

No.

To be a little more specific, OS 5.x was designed for the ARM RISC architecture and features emulation to be able to run older Palm apps.  The older palmOS-based equipment runs on the Motorolla Dragonball processors, based on the old 68000 architecture.

As a former Treo 300 user and now a Treo 600 user, I'll add that the 600 adds a lot more than a camera.  It has twice as much memory, a very nice 5-way navigation system that's well integrated into the OS, a SD card slot, a sound subsystem system that allows you to play MP3 and Ogg Vorbis files and streaming Shoutcast audio, and a much faster processor that really helps with web page viewing.  In almost every way, it's a big improvement over the older phone.  My only qualms are that the keyboard is a little harder to type on and that there's no good screen protection without an external case.

Ben,
is 600's screen has the same size and resolution as 300 (and 270) ?

Just another quick question: I added more new system midi sounds, for example, for the alarms, but I cannot change the phone rings. Anyone know how to add more phone rings?
