A list of domains to expire

I need to buy a few domains for new web sites. Where can I review a list of domains which may expire in the next 1-3 months?

Why do you want a list of domains about to expire?  Why not just buy the name you want?  Unless you are looking to buy up those domains and then sell them back to the same admins who forgot to renew them..........

A lot of good domain names are already taken. I don't want to try name by name if available or not. It is more useful to check through a list of domains which will expire.

PS: I don't sell domains.

You ask the strangest questions, Evgeny.  First about spamming to draw attention to job boards, now this.

As it happens, Verisign have a service which does something like what you want:

That Verisign service is not exactly what I'm looking for, but anyway thank you for the link. May be a list of such domains is not available for free, because companies make money holding such info.

Well, I will try to ask my friends around and as well as check some available domain names.

PS: I will continue to ask strange and not strange questions, I mean well :^)

Matt, it is pretty common.

1) Find sites which are generating good traffic

2) buy domain if it becomes vailable for a fraction of a second

3) redirect to your own domain

4) profit

At least, that's what I think he's up to...

No, I need to run some new services, and I need domains for them.

My services addressed to high-tech people, so I not need dirty traffic, too. Thank you for your understanding.

Great, I've been waiting for www.kielikylpy.com to become available.

Bad idea, Evgany.

If someone is looking for www.kielikylpy.com and ends up at JavaDesk, they won't be happy.

Besides, the pornographers and spammers have already taken the good ones.  By good, I mean the popular high traffic ones.

If you can't grow your site by non-sleazy methods, shut it down.

On this subject:

I set up a custom domain for my wife ending in .net a couple of years ago. .com was taken at the time.

This summer I got email apparently from the bozo that owns the domain, saying that I could acquire that domain name ending in .com for $90. I sent back an email saying "no deal, MUCH lower and I'll consider it." No response.

I just checked tonight and the domain was free/unregistered. Apparently he let it lapse.

Hoo-yah! I registered the sucker.

No moral to this story. But sometimes the present DNS and name registry system just seems idiotic and it encourages fraud and a sort of extortion.

Bystander, I have another story. I contacted someone to buy his domain. His site is actually up and running, has a traffic, but I have no idea how he does the money. He requested 20,000 dollars for the domain...

Negotiations: start higher, and you'll settle on a higher price.  If he starts at even a ridiculously high amount ($20,000), and you haggle him down to $50, you'll feel good about getting such a deal.  If he starts at $100, and you get him down to $40, you'll be wondering if you could have squeezed down to $35 or even $30.

So it's not such a ridiculous thing to start high.
