Career Change Adivce: Technical Marketing

Hey all,

While I love software development lately it seems that
it wouldn't be a bad idea to have something to fall back on.

I've been looking at Technical Marketing as a possible
fall back. It seems like a job for people with a technical background who like to be "customer facing".

Has anyone heard about/worked with anyone in
this field?

what do you mean by technical marketing. building demos? (i.e. a "sales engineer") or determining what products to build and how technically feasible they are through market research, etc?

Meh ... I've looked into it.  It looked like a lot more sales than technical stuff.  The idea is that someone who is technically-minded will have a much better understanding of the problem your company is hoping to solve.

But, as far as general job duties, it looked like standard sales fodder - a lot of travel, etc.  If you're interested, look into it more - I decided against it.
