Not much of a girl friend, but she's the only one I got.

Congratulations on winning the bid Bystander! Keep us updated on how it goes!

So, how long is the imaginary relationship supposed to last?  The winning $41 bid doesn't seem like it would cover anything longer than 60-90 days.  Beyond that and the materials cost (paper, perfume, envelopes, postage) would start sinking in.

OTOH, if you're getting your imaginary GF on ebay, that's probably the best relationship you've had in a while :-)

If you read it, and I was sad enough to do so, you'll see its for a fixed period 30 days, then you get to dump her.

$40 a month doesn't seem like much of an income. Unless she's two timing you :-P

Interesting, but not as interesting as "Woman dumps man for his online alter ego"

For no good reason I find that thing she's wearing around her neck disturbing.

These things are already getting spammed out on Ebay. Search on "imaginary girlfriend" and you'll see that several of them have the same text in the ad and the same GF pictures.

It reminds me of the old Beavis and Butthead episode where the two got addicted to a 1-900 sex line, and at the other end was this old fat lady with a bunch of kids in a mobile home, talking real breathily into the phone .... IE, some "situation" like that is probably your rental "girlfriend".

"These things are already getting spammed out on Ebay. Search on "imaginary girlfriend" and you'll see that several of them have the same text in the ad and the same GF pictures."

Including the several dozen that say "IMAGINARY ONLINE GIRLFRIEND - ORIGINAL!" even though there are different fotos.

"we will not meet in person, talk on the phone or otherwise communicate outside the boundaries set forth in this description"

So it's a few guys and fotos they downloaded from Hot Or Not .com ?

I feel bad for the guy selling this book:

I'm making about $800/month on this scam. The trick is  to have a photo that makes you look pretty decent and interesting but not too hot -- no 'glamor' shots or shots culled from magazines, for example.

Most the letters I send are the same as other letters I send so I don't even have to think about it much. I have a script that posts the ads to begin with so it's all pretty automated.

To summarize it's easy money - I'm selling people the right te recieve mailings from me, which are mostly form letters though I always do customize at least one of the letters and I do select the letters based on what the guy is looking for.

I'll have 10-30 guys a month that I am providing letter writing services to.

And yes, I am a guy though I pretend not to be, but all is fair since I say that I am an 'imaginary' girlfriend right? Actually I think this is not a safe business for a girl anyway due to the occasionaly crazy that must be dealt with. Also you gotta watch out for their sob stories and just not believe any thing they say, but pretend to be sympathetic and all.

Are you for real man!? That's --- cough cough... GREAT... I guess.

I guess you get what you pay for...

Man, I feel ripped off. I wonder if I can pull back a Paypal payment. ;-)

This reminds me of quote:

I'm a firm believer of "You get what you pay for". So I guess if you're too cheap to have a real girlfriend, and you pay for a fake one online... well... you asked for it!

The most important thing is sincerity.  If you can fake that, you've got it made.

"Are you for real man!?"

No, not a real man. She's a woman who pretends to be a man that pretends to be a woman. That way she won't get any aggro from people going 'round to her house. Or maybe there are one or more more levels of indirection.
