New note taking software

I have discovered a new note-taking software. It is a Windows application, but it is very wiki-like.

You can easily link information.

For example, when I work in a page, I can write a wiki link (like this: WikiLink), and double-click it, and a new page will be created.

Very slick.

Unfortunately, it seems less powerful than KeyNote or Demios Chimp Notes (which is what I was using before).

Unlike KeyNote, this app is shareware.

Looks nice.

Another similar program is WikiServer: http://www.tinyted.net/eddie/wiki/

Though it doesn't seem to have the same slick UI.

It'd be even better if it could interact with a web server, so that those data can be accessed from any host.

Interesting. Do you have links to KeyNote and Chimp Notes?

Demios seems to be out of business (their website is one of those lame internet squatter sites) and I'm not sure what version of Keynote you're referring to (I'm assuming not the Apple product, given that you're a Windows user)

Just tell the non-techies in your company to contribute to the Intranet by typing HTML or weird-looking text (wiki, structured text in Zope) in a tiny textarea in their browser... Time for some reality check :-) It's Word or the highway.

I'm more interested in the package itself, its a python desktop app using wxWindows.

Installs easily and feels like a normal Win32 app. Python really is moving along.

However, it does mean the app has is a near 4mb download.

Not only can it can hook up with live web wikis, but it can also upload your interactive wiki to your iPod????

re python: It's one of the few times in tech history that the type lives up to the reality. Python is really the way to go for a heckofalotta things and it's very closs platform - much more so than Java for instance. Also doesn't crash all the time.

wikidPad has some really interesting features that I haven't even seen in web based wikis, or voodoopad. It supports what it calls "properties". You can attach a property like [contact: personal] and [related-to: work] to a page and it will index that page in a special view. These properties can also affect the icon of the node in the tree and the fonts used. There are special properties like [priority: 5] which change the display of the node in the tree. Regular wikis seem a little bit lacking in that it is hard to cross-index your information this way.
