Affiliate programs

I first looked at affiliate programs c1997. I have been putting it off ever since. Just could never get around to signing up.

There a couple of sites that I run with a reasonable amount of traffic.

Is anyone out there making money on affiliate programs?

I know there are now a few affiliate aggregators out there, making it a lot easier to reach the pay threshhold.

What about the inlink ads? Again, is anyone making money on these?

Which are the best programs? Which are the scams?

One thing I do not want is either banners, or pop-ups/pop-unders etc.

If your sites have a theme, try selling products related to that theme. Then you would get a cut from the sales.

No stiking impressions/popups/popunders/etc.

That is the general idea... theme the product offering to the sites.

The question still remains though. Is there anyone actually making money, and which of the Affiliate houses play fair with commissions??

I made money with Amazon affiliate links for recommended books in an e-mail newsletter I ran and from my old site. It wasn't much, but paid for the site and gave me between $50 and $300 a month in profit. I didn't put any real work into it either. This was about five years ago, so I don't know what holds now.

I had heard that book authors make more from Amazon affiliate links than they get from the publisher. I heard this more or less directly from "the horse's mouth" (i.e. author of a well known book published by a well known publisher).

Amazon doesn't pay much for the books they sell, so the authors typically make less money from amazon sales than from other sales.

I think Amazon gives 15% commission. I doubt that a writer can get that from a publisher. In fact, a writer with a web site promoting his/her books and linking to Amazon would get the 15% + the percentage coming from the publisher.
