Affiliate programs I first looked at affiliate programs c1997. I have been putting it off ever since. Just could never get around to signing up.

If your sites have a theme, try selling products related to that theme. Then you would get a cut from the sales.

That is the general idea... theme the product offering to the sites.

I made money with Amazon affiliate links for recommended books in an e-mail newsletter I ran and from my old site. It wasn't much, but paid for the site and gave me between $50 and $300 a month in profit. I didn't put any real work into it either. This was about five years ago, so I don't know what holds now.

I had heard that book authors make more from Amazon affiliate links than they get from the publisher. I heard this more or less directly from "the horse's mouth" (i.e. author of a well known book published by a well known publisher).

Amazon doesn't pay much for the books they sell, so the authors typically make less money from amazon sales than from other sales.

Actually, I should have added, the situation I describe existed in 1999... and so do Kozmo... MarkTaw's comments probably reflect reality these days.

I think Amazon gives 15% commission. I doubt that a writer can get that from a publisher. In fact, a writer with a web site promoting his/her books and linking to Amazon would get the 15% + the percentage coming from the publisher.
