Novell Suse

Good deal IMHO.
At least give Novell a fighting chance, especially since IBM also has a part on this deal. Hopefully the merge will go through smoothly, unlike the other US-German merger (DaimlerChrysler). If I'm RedHat management I will be very nervous.

My theory is that IBM is helping Novell in exchange for Novell disbanding the Mono project.

Still think this will go the way Corel went with Wordperfect, and their Debian based Linux distro.

Novell has a great sales channel. Let's face it, this is what they *do* now: soak money from the Fortune 5000.

So yeah, I think this has a shot.  If RedHat buddies up with a Big Brother in the next few weeks, that's another encouraging sign.

Ummm Novell _had_ a great sales channel, they threw that away with the rest of the babies, the bath water and the bath itself. They have never come to terms with the reality that it isn't 1985 anymore.

All Novell is now is a corporate bond shelter.

Remember what Novell did to WordPerfect?  They bought it in 94 for a ton of cash, and none of their own people knew what to do with it.  They didn't (and typically haven't) invested enough RnD to make things like this work.

They seriously screwed it up, and ended up selling it for 10% of what they purchased it for, only 2-3 years later.

I hope they've learned their lesson, keep the SuSe guys around, and not get in their way.  And they must keep the Mono project alive!

Fox TV should have a special about this:  "When Bureaucracies Attack!"

"All Novell is now is a corporate bond shelter."

So I guess Suse's employees will perfectly fit in the Novell universe.
